Method
Marinate the Chicken
Cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces and marinate with salt, turmeric, and a splash of lemon juice. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes while you prepare the other ingredients.
Prepare the Base
Heat butter in a large pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown, about 7-8 minutes. Add the garlic and ginger, cooking for another 2 minutes until fragrant.
Add Spices
Add garam masala, cumin, and paprika to the pan. Stir for 30 seconds to toast the spices, then add the crushed tomatoes. Simmer for 5-7 minutes until the sauce thickens.
Cook the Chicken
Add the marinated chicken to the sauce and cook for 12-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and tender.
Finish with Cream
Reduce heat to low and stir in the heavy cream and honey. Simmer for 3-4 minutes until the sauce is smooth and creamy. Taste and adjust salt as needed.
Serve
Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with basmati rice or warm naan bread. Enjoy your homemade butter chicken!
💡 Chef's Tips
For an even richer flavor, marinate the chicken overnight in yogurt with spices. You can also add a tablespoon of tomato paste for extra depth. If you prefer a spicier dish, add 1-2 chopped green chilies with the onions.
